We offer salmon fishing in the Stjørdal river by the week, with exclusive access to our beats

Best suited for up to three rods

Salmon Fishing

Only 15 minutes from Trondheim Airport, adjacent to Hegra railway station, you will find Øvre Hembre Farm. Here we have offered sport fishing for salmon in the Stjørdal River ever since English nobility introduced this concept to the valley back in the middle of the 19th century.

From 2021 we have offered fishing by the week. Check our availability and contact us for an offer!

Our beats

Our beats Hjelseng and Hembresøren are situated in the village of Hegra, a few hundred meters downstream from the bridge. Here you will fish with exclusive access to the Stjørdal River.

Hjelseng and Hembresøren are two attractive salmon beats with a potential for especially good fishing early in the season. In 2020 around 200 kilograms of salmon was caught during the four first weeks alone at Hembresøren; 30 salmons with an average weight of almost 7 kilograms.

Hembresøren is well suited for fly fishing at mean and high water flow, while Hjelseng offers a pool that is best suited for a somewhat lower water flow. This way the beats complement each other well. The fishing is organized with a daily alternation between the two beats. Both beats can be fished from both sides of the river, altough the conditions are best from the south side.

The recommended number of rods at Hjelseng og Hembresøren is up to three. The maximum number of rods is four.

The Stjørdal River

In the middle of the country the Stjørdal River flows through scenic Norwegian nature and agricultural landscape before arriving at the Trondheim Fjord. The river has been appointed a status as a “National Salmon River” by the Norwegian Environment Agency, which gives the salmon population special protection from external threats.

The Stjørdal River is well known for its variation and excellent fishing. It is very well suited for fly fishing, and outdoors author Ole Kirkemo even refer to it as “the perfect fly fishing river”.

The Stjørdal River is often described as a typical big salmon river, and the average weight through each season often lies above 5 kg. Every year around 5-10 000 kg of salmon is caught in the river, including released salmon.

Sustainable salmon fishing

Sustainable fishing and management of the Atlantic wild salmon are necessary prerequisites to allow future sport fishers to also enjoy their passion in the Stjørdal River. Øvre Hembre Farm is organized in the River-owners Association for the Stjørdal River. This is the association responsible for managing the salmon fishing according to the requirements of the Norwegian Environment Agency.

Everybody who fish at our beats is obligated to understand and follow the regulations for fishing in the Stjørdal River. These regulations could be found HERE. Please note that fishing regulations can change during each season.

The share of salmon that is released have increased in the Stjørdal River over the last years. Øvre Hembre Farm encourages a responsible practicing of catch and release, especially when it comes to big salmon early in June.
